Are you an Indian citizen and applying for fresh passport or renewing old passport? Be careful, as there's rampant bribery all over India - officers usually demand ₹500 to ₹2000 bribe for "faster processing" / verification of passport. Do not bend to bribery demands. Say NO to bribe.

• Had to reissue 3 of my family members’ passports, despite of having all the documents and details in proper place the journey involved me having to pay 1)Portal fee- ₹1500x3 (valid) 2)Police verification- ₹2000x3 3)Postman- ₹200x3 A sum of about ₹11k was spent on the process

• Mine got rejected once for not paying seva pani ...had to pay 5000 as penalty (valid ) for applying again ... :-/

• I had police verification for passport tody. Paid bribe of 300RS. Sir i am kind of citizen who dosen'teven throw waste on road, always wear helmet while driving and doeseverything which my country can be very proud of.

• In East Bengaluru, a police official a grade lower than sub-inspector, seated in his office table, openly demands a bride of ₹500 for passport’s home verification process. ₹500 for not moving a mm from his space, no checking of applicant at home. Just to push his stage papers.

• Its been 2 yrs that two of my fam members’ passports were not delivered despite all our docs in place. We got unsigned,undated letters from GZB passport off to give add proofs from 15 yrs ago even though you are required furnish proofs for 2 yrs. all coz you didn’t bribe the LO.

• Paid 500 for mine in Chandigarh. That's the standard rate here.

• I was lucky because it was during covid and police came to visit my house I was surprised because during my elder brother's passport we had to go to the police station and had to shed 500 rupees.

• Right. I paid ₹500 each for my parents.

• Same happened with me near amausi metro police chauki , I was asked Rs.1000 to skip the address verification , otherwise I was told it would go to my grandfather's place for verification.

• 1000 INR is fixed rate at each police station. If applicant won't give then verification will be sent to SP office with negative feedback(most of the case).

• I have also given money for my basic PCC but still no update on system. Being legal citizens of India is also of no use. Where govt officials are involved we have to BRIBE. OR the will say the process will take LONG TIME. I wish India becomes BRIBE FREE one day.

• police person "Ram kumar tomar" came to my house for police verification for passport file no. LK3067130472622 and misbehaved & asked ₹1000. I didn't paid, he started mentally pressuring not only at home but also in Scooter india, Lucknow chowki as well.

• 1 year back, same happened to me...they asked for bribe, when I denied they rejected my application without telling the proper reason, finally I paid ₹1000 in second verification visit and then only my passport was made.

• Pay the bribe is how I got mine past this. Tried to follow the righteous route but after 5 months waiting just paid the bribe. Verified in 3 days after that.

• In Noida gave a 1000 and he asked for another 1000 Could be because diwali was coming up.

• 2k (1500 portal + 500 police) for me

• Today also on 73rd Constitutional Day, police taking money only for documents verification of Passport. Concerned authorities should look into this matter. Thz is untold true story all over in India!!

• It happened to me, in my case it was stuck for 2 months. After numerous visit to the police station one day the constable called me and said can you come this afternoon for verification. After a lit bit of bribery it was verified and in next couple of weeks I got my passport.

• I paid 500/- after asking him to reduce it from 1000 to 500 and he happily agreed for it. Got my pp in 14 days.

• Mine took exactly 2 months to come was stuck here for a month even after all the procedures were done. What I found out is in some stations they usually wait for applicants form to reach a certain number before forwarding it to the next step like 100 applicants or so and that in some cities take time (this happened even after I bribed him with 1k) so don't panic.

• Unfortunately my dad had to pay 3500 bribe, they have people attached who will follow you outside the police station and ask you for bribe. Good piece of advice, if you don't want to get into trouble give them the bribe and take your passport, sorry but that's how it works

• Yes, I was forced to bribe the police in my area to get mine verified. They were asking for credentials ( voter id) of not only of my father, but grand father and great grand father as well. I told them that India did not exist as an independent country in my grandfather's time. They made me run for three months until I paid up.

• You have completely ignored my complaint about forcing my mother to pay INR 600 for the passport cover. Passport officer told her its mandatory to pay this amount otherwise she will not get the passport.

• The police called me to bring aadhar and Birth certificate photocopy to the police station for verification and asked some questions like what do you do?Do you have any case on you?. Then he said to give 2000 in bribe to get done easily. It was the first time ever in my life I was asked for bribe. I got some contacts with some people who got me through without paying any money.

• Visit with a 500 note and when he says "kuch hamara bhi dekh lo" give him that and he will immediately put that in his back pocket then leave. Will take less than 30 seconds in this process. And you will receive it. This was my experience.

• for passport verification your police are asking 700 rupees via paytm, they are taking our pics and they are saying they need to print it and prepare report and need 700. The govt employees are the most corrupt especially the police who are on top of the spectrum.

• They are demanding money for passport verification all the time in inside the thana... Even all the docs is provided by the applicant is all true and genuine. One lady constable named Kanchan is taking money without any fear from us.... And if i deny to give them a single penny then they warned and threatened me that your paper will be on hold, and now you see our power.

• I had to pay ₹500 for passport verification in Kokrajhar Police Station in 2018 and ₹300 for final documents in SP office Kokrajhar.

• One police station is jharkhand ,katras is asking bribe of 1000 for police verification. Asking so many documents for police verification along with 1000. This is complete harassment.

• Your police at JL Puram shamelessly come home after 8pm and beg for Rs500 to complete verification. If we say NO, he will openly say that verification will be rejected.

• Indian Passport officees are so so corrupt, never follows the guideline given on the website, if you say something they say do it yourself then. And I saw taking bribe just infront of me while talking on phone asking for bribe from other person.

• I had to pay ₹500 a police personnel in Bhuna Police thana (Fatehabad,haryana) where he asked me to come at my home at 8 pm. He only can dio this for today otherwise he’s is not available for couple of days.

Peon in courts asking for money just to give you a copy of the form. Police asking ₹1k just to clear your passport verification form. The situation is worse than before.

A friend of mine has given 4500 rs for passport verification of 3 persons in his family. Initially he paid 1500, but officer was reluctant and asked him to pay 1500 per person.

• my experience is if police needs money they dont unnecessary harass you coz they get nothing out it …policemen who to came to my house for verification was very professional he asked 1500 in “ suvidha shulk” i paid him and thats it .
